The North American Hockey League existed as an agricultural league of the WHA from 1973-74 to 1976-77. In 1974-75, four players reached the 100-point plateau. The leader scored 114 points, a far cry from the Beauce Jaros’ Joe Hardy’s 208 the following season.
Bob Jones – Syracuse Blazers
Jones scored 38 goals and assisted on 76 for 114 points in 67 games. It was the first of two years at NAHL for Bob. He played for the Mohawk Valley Comets in 1975-76 and totaled 109 points.
Bob played a total of 161 regular-season World Hockey Associaton games, wearing eight different jerseys, although several were relocated franchises. Jones played two games in the National Hockey League, both with the New York Rangers in 1968-69. In 1969-70, he played a major role for the Buffalo Bisons by winning the Calder Cup championship in the American Hockey League. It was the last year of the Bisons’ existence.
Rod Bloomfield – Binghamton feather dusters
In 68 games, Bloomfield scored 55 goals and assisted in 54 for 109 points. Rod played five years of professional hockey, all at Binghamton. He finished third in 1973-74 with 119 points, four points behind the leader. In 1976-77, he led the NAHL in his final season with 173 points, 46 points ahead of second-placed.
Bob Collyard – Fire Birds of Philadelphia
Collyard totaled 103 points on 42 goals and 61 assists in 72 games. Bob was originally a seventh-round pick for the St. Louis Blues in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft, being No. 73 overall. He played as a professional from 1971-72 to 1982-83. His only NHL action came during the 1973-74 season, appearing in ten games for the St. Louis Blues.
Collyard played three years with the Philadelphia Firebirds in the NAHL from 1974-75 to 1976-77. He surpassed the 100-point plateau in all three seasons. He played two more years with the Firebirds when they moved to the AHL.
Paul Larose – Maine Nordiques
Larose also had 103 points in 1974-75 with 54 goals and 49 assists in 73 games. His 54 goals placed him second behind Rod Bloomfield. He also played five games in the WHA that season with the Michigan Stags. Paul was originally a seventh-round pick for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft, 91 overall. He played professional hockey from 1970-71 to 1976-77 but saw no action in the NHL.
Paul appeared on all four seasons of NAHL, all with the Maine Nordiques. In three of those years it exceeded 100 points. In 1971-72 as a member of the Syracuse Blazers, Larose led the Eastern Hockey League with 67 goals. He played 33 career games in the WHA with Quebec Nordiques and Michigan Stags.
