Choose the right kitchen sink for your home

Everyone who is going to build or renovate a house has ideas about the main aspects of design. Colors, rugs, and paint are always at the forefront of mind, but it seems like everything else falls behind! Many people are overwhelmed when they realize how many other small decisions need to be made during the construction process.

If you are looking for ideas in the kitchen, one of the most renovated and important rooms in the house, it is a good idea to start with the basics. Tiling is important and so are the countertops, but how could we forget about one of the focal points in the room: the kitchen sink?

Why the sink?

The kitchen sink defines everything about the room. It might not seem like much when you’re thinking about the entire construction, but it’s one of the first things people notice when they walk into the room and it changes the way everything from the counters to the color of the walls fits together.

What is there to decide?

A lot! Material, size, number of sinks, tap shape, taps, mounting – there’s a lot to decide when you install a kitchen sink.

Metals are a common choice for sink materials, but composite sinks made of granite and quartz can do an absolutely wonderful job of combining countertop materials. Even with metal sinks there is a lot to choose from. Stainless steel looks impressive and fits in most decorations while offering all the durability you need. Cast iron sinks are available in various colors and are easy to clean and maintain. Other metals like copper are also good options, but they tend to be much more expensive than the more standard options.

If you are building new, you will have the option of choosing your own size sink, but unfortunately, if you are just renovating, you are likely looking for a sink that will fit into an already built hole. This can be a bit limiting at times, so it’s best to measure the size before you start looking.

Do I want a double sink?

Want? How about the need? A double sink is an absolute lifesaver and can make things a lot easier when you have dishes piled up and food scraps to go in the trash (if your plumbing allows). Double sinks allow for twice the utility, and while some people like the idea of a single, larger sink for pots and pans, a double sink should be high on your list of considerations.

Choose the right kitchen sink for your new kitchen and remember the little details when renovating or building your new home.
