CEUS by State

You may not be aware of the nursing CEUS requirements in your state. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is the national agency that accredits nursing CE providers. A provider number is given to a nursing CE provider when the organization has been approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Commission (ANCC). A nurse can use this number to renew their license or specialty certification in their state. It is important to keep a record of all CE hours you have earned.

CEUs are earned for attending college courses and other courses to advance a nurse’s career. In order to get credit for this, the content must be relevant to the practice of nursing. The BONs of most states have rules about what can and cannot be considered for nursing CE. Generally, courses that are general education or prerequisite courses do not count as CE. A nurse must track their Nursing CEUs hours if they want to renew their license.

Nurses should continue to learn to remain current. This profession is dynamic, and nurses need to stay updated. Continuing education unit requirements help RNs stay current on developments in their field. CEU requirements differ by state, but most states require nurses to earn credits every two years or so. Some states require specific courses to satisfy CEU requirements. To keep up with the requirements in your state, it is helpful to check out accredited colleges and take some online courses.

To obtain CEUs, you must take a course that is accredited by the state in which you practice nursing. You can take in-person courses, webinars, professional conferences, and clinical workshops that meet the standards set by your state. Common areas of nursing CE include nursing laws, clinical topics, conflict management, pharmacology, and more. Free CEU courses are also available at health care facilities. They qualify as continuing education for nurses and may even be tax-deductible.

Continuing education is a critical part of nursing practice, so it’s important for RNs and LPNs to take advantage of online CE courses. Some states also require LPNs to take 1 hour of sexual harassment prevention education every two years. RNs are required to take at least 30 contact hours of continuing education every two years, while LPNs are allowed unlimited self-study hours. In most states, continuing education must be at least one hour in length and be related to Chapters 4723, 1-43.

Nurse anesthetists need to get all the pertinent information about their patients. They must know which type of anesthesia to use and how much to administer. They must also keep an eye on the patient’s vital signs, including blood pressure and heart rate. If anything goes wrong, the nurse anesthetist must alert the physician immediately. It’s vital that they monitor the patient’s heart rate and blood pressure while they’re under anesthesia.
