The motivational power of SPITE

The term spite is generally used in a rather negative way. Look up its definition and it is full of negative and ugly words like malicious and spiteful. However, I think there is another side to spite. I think people can embrace grudges and use them to motivate each other. Take a minute and really think about everyone who has doubted you, everyone who has laughed at your dreams. Think of all the people laughing behind your back. How you feel? I don’t feel anger or shame, I feel the need to annoy these people. I want to prove them wrong! Turn that negative energy (also known as spite) into positive motivation!

In my world, spite means one thing:

yessuccessfully

Pwandering

mediotes

Thello son

merumby

That may sound harsh, but if someone doubts you, what choice do you have? I have had people literally laugh at my dreams. Some people have told me that I will never succeed. I know that people doubt me all the time. If I don’t label those people as idiots, then I am giving credence to their feelings and opinions. In my mind, you doubt me, you’re an idiot. I’d like nothing better than proving you wrong. I’ll rub your nose too!

Let’s WEIGH!

It may be an ugly word used for ugly reasons, but the motivation I get from proving people wrong is powerful. I have listened to many speakers on personal development and this is a topic that they do not touch enough. It’s all about positive thoughts. Think positive, be positive, don’t focus on the negative. The thought is that negative thinking will bring negative energy. What about the concept of yin and yang? Have people ever wondered if we need a dark side or an edge to balance our positive energy?

The reality is that negative motivation is just as powerful as positive motivation. Look at professional sports. A team that made the playoffs and lost a couple of close series is much better off and much more motivated for the upcoming season. The LA Lakers were demolished by the Celtics in 2008, since then they have won two titles. Kobe Bryant, who took them there, has spent years trying to prove to people that he can win without Shaq. Michael Jordan took advantage of the grudge he had for his high school teacher and turned it into one of the greatest careers in sports history.

If you’ve been trying to stay positive, used your daily affirmations, and noticed that your career and life results have plateaued, maybe a touch of a grudge is exactly what you need!
