3 steps to a successful date

Taking your romantic interest on a first date that is boring, predictable, and generic is the best way to guarantee that you will never see them again.

Instead, you should think about not only where you plan to meet your date initially, but also where you’ll take your date later in the evening when things go well.

1) Choose a place that is casual and non-threatening for a first date. By scheduling a meeting with someone in a relaxed and informal setting, like a coffee shop, you mitigate the risk of your date feeling threatened by awkwardness. Awkwardness is fueled on first dates by expensive restaurant bills and silently watching a movie at the local movie theater. For these reasons, dinners and movies should be avoided at all costs on first dates. Rather, by meeting at a coffee shop, you not only guarantee that you’ll have the opportunity to get to know your romantic interest better, but you’ll also increase the likelihood that your date will actually show up and not call it off. After all, who doesn’t love a quick cup of coffee?

2) Plan follow-up places to take your appointment if things go well. After initially meeting your date at a coffee shop, have other places in the area that you can take your date to after about 30 minutes have passed with their cup of coffee. This time, take your partner somewhere fun, interesting, and interactive. An interactive venue, such as a pool hall, will ensure plenty of opportunities to joke around and talk with your partner.

3) Have an activity planned at your residence. After spending several hours with your date, and after chemistry and attraction is established, you can invite your date back to your apartment or house. By suggesting that you make smoothies or desserts at your place, or offering to turn on your karaoke machine, you’ll have the perfect excuse for your date to come back to your place.

By following these simple steps, you can really make your date stand out from the numerous generic dinner and movie dates your romantic interest has been on. While taking your date out to dinner or a movie may be fine once you’re a little more involved romantically with your partner, first dates are mostly about showing off your personality, your creativity, and your spontaneity. Show your date that you are the type of person who is exciting and unpredictable, and you can be sure that they will want to see you again.
