How not to be satisfied as one of the best players in women’s basketball

Memphis is becoming known nationally as a place for talented basketball players. We have girls playing and being drafted by top women’s college basketball teams like the University of Tennessee, University of Georgia, Middle Tennessee State, Maryland, Georgia Tech and many more. However, when you are being recruited by such teams and people are constantly telling you how good you are, you have to beware of the dangers of believing the hype and backing down.

After beating the No. 1 college football team in the preseason, Alabama football coach Nick Saban wasn’t interested in talking about the possibility of winning a national football championship. He was more interested in discussing the lessons he hopes his team will learn from going from a 31-0 halftime lead to being beaten, as he put it, in the final two quarters. He was disappointed by the team’s loss of intensity in the second half.

As one of the best players in women’s basketball, you can learn from Coach Saban. If she takes what others say about her talent and lets it go to her head that she’s being recruited by top women’s college basketball programs, she may be in for a rude awakening at some point.

Watch during the same week Alabama defeated preseason No. 1 Georgia. Four teams in the top 10 lost, including three in the top four. And 3 of those top 10 teams fell to unranked teams.

Let me give you a word of caution. You may be one of the best players now, however, if you don’t continue to work on your game, someone else will.
