Instead of roses and rings

Instead of Roses and Rings is a wonderful story of love and healing for two men at a university. This is not a “raunchy” romance – you won’t find any erotic scenes in this tender insight into the lives of men who prefer the company of men.

Chris unknowingly pursues Alexis from the moment they meet. Alexis sees things that lead him to believe that Chris has the gift of sight and is intrigued by this; however, Alexis also fears a disturbing paranormal connection between Chris’s features and a former lover who died in the past.

Innocent of all this, Chris awkwardly struggles to understand his sexuality and new lifestyle without the help of someone to explain things to him or share his fears. He selflessly and without pride adores Alexis with such intensity that he almost destroys them both, but ends up being her own salvation.

Torn between the emotional scars of the past and the expectations of society, they try to maintain their composure while dealing with these new and intense feelings. Malicious and biased adversaries seem to lurk around every corner, yet warm-hearted friends give them the strength and advice to overcome misunderstandings and face the strong and confusing emotions that come with the beginnings of love. These two men are from the same world, but come from opposite ends of the spectrum: love soon proves to be blind to all those limits.

I’d be handed over as a reviewer if I didn’t mention the myriad of grammatical errors in this book. Occasionally, sentences were missing entire words or used the wrong word (ie listen instead of here) and the author’s incorrect use of punctuation lowered the quality of my journey into this story as a reader.

The dream sequences were some of the most unique I have ever read. The author decided to refrain from any punctuation of any kind, which once charged, actually brings a real sense of speed and intermittent events that people experience in dreams.
