First things first, before you buy a PS3 40G, one thing you need to know: If you play your old PS2 games, you may need to buy a PS3 model 60G or a PS3 model 80G.
Remember, this PS3 40G is not backwards compatible! You can’t play your PS2 games on this 40G PS3. (I didn’t do my homework before I bought this PS3 40G so my PS2 games are still dusty now)
Ok, now back on topic,
I bought this PS3 40G because I want to watch Blu-ray movies on my 40-inch Sony LCD HDTV (1080i). And did you know that the PS3 has a built-in Blu-ray player (I think a lot of people buy this PS3 for the built-in Blu-ray player). One day, when my brother told me that he bought a 40G Play Station 3 at Circuit City for $399 (it was on sale), and he told me how ‘great’ his Play Station 3 is, so I bought this 40G play station 3 (package includes a ‘Spider-man 3’ Blu-ray disc).
This 40G Play Station 3 is HDMI compatible which means I can use this 40G Play Station 3 to watch all HD movies on my Sony 40 inch LCD HDTV (1080i) and my new Gateway LCD HD Monitor. 24 inches. (Two other famous game systems, Wii doesn’t have HD player and xbox360 you need to pay extra $170 to get HD-DVD player.) However, this PS3 40G model didn’t come with HDMI, so I had to spend $6 to buy an HDMI cable on amazon.com.
This PS3 40G has built-in wireless capability to connect to the Internet and access is free. I can use Windows Media as a media server to share files via wireless connection from my PC to this PS3 40G (there are many movies on YouTube that show you how to share your PC files with your PS3).
This PS3 40G includes a wireless controller (it’s pretty cool; personally, I really hate having a mass of cables everywhere). If you want to play 2 player game with your friend at the same time, you need to buy another wireless controller (about $49 in circuit city).
This PS3 40G doesn’t include a remote (just like a TV remote, see picture above), so I had to buy a remote for $28 on amazon.com. I used this 40G PS3 to watch Blu-ray movies and my baby’s photos through my 40-inch Sony LCD HDTV. High definition makes the graphics really amazing! I highly recommend people to buy an HDMI cable for their PS3. Using the HDMI cable can really tell you the difference between normal and high definition quality. When I play Motor Storm PS3 (I bought a used one for $25 on amazon.com). It’s great, the game looks so real.
One issue you may be concerned about is that this 40G Play Station 3 is getting a little hot after 40 minutes and a little slow to load the game (above my original expectation).
Overall this PS3 40G is fantastic and I am really enjoying this PS3 40G. It was worth every penny!
