Pomegranates can be cracked open and the fruit can be eaten directly from the individual pods as a delicious treat, or used in salads, or even as a side dish. But pomegranates are more popular and refreshing when squeezed. The juice has a unique sweet and sour flavor and is used to make sauces, flavor recipes, as well as added to some alcoholic beverages such as martinis and made into wine.
