Driving Test Tips: What will the examiner look for during your test?

If you are trying to prepare for your driving test, you must study and learn all the rules of the road. You also need to practice regularly. You need to get comfortable in the driver’s seat if you want to pass. Only practice with someone who won’t yell at you for making mistakes. This will ruin your confidence and you won’t learn anything at all.

However, at the same time, you shouldn’t practice with someone who won’t offer you any real advice. Practice with a responsible adult who will explain your mistakes and offer advice on how to avoid making them in the future.

So what do you need to know? Here are some ideas of what an examiner will look for during testing time:

Whether or not you fasten your seat belt and mirrors.

If you are holding the steering wheel correctly.

How well you start the car and drive off.

Whether or not you look back while backing up.

· If you apply the brakes smoothly.

How well you follow the signs.

· If you keep a reasonable amount of space between yourself and other vehicles.

Whether or not you always use appropriate signals (including hand signals).

If you always go at the proper speed limit.

· If you know which lane you are supposed to turn into.

If you can parallel park correctly and exit safely with the proper signs.

If you know how the parking lights, parking brake, horn and all other controls work.

· How well you listen to instructions.

These tips are just the basics of what you need to learn. You can find practice checklists online. Print one out and take it with you while you practice. Over time, you’ll start to master everything, and you’ll have your driver’s license before you know it!
