How to become a Victoria’s Secret model

Becoming a Victoria’s Secret model is a daunting task. Millions of hopefuls dream of being a model and getting a contract with Victoria’s Secret. Showing up at the Victoria’s Secret office in a bathing suit with a box of chocolates isn’t going to work.

Top 10 tips for becoming a Victoria’s Secret model:

1. Ask someone to take a photo of you. As simple as it sounds, you will need this snapshot to approach a credible modeling agency. Agencies that help with the casting of a Victoria’s Secret model will want to see how you look on film.

2. Go to the open call at Ford or Elite in New York City. These two agencies are the main ones in charge of negotiating the contracts of Victoria’s Secret models. An open call is a time agency set aside to meet new models. Call them and ask when they have “open calls” or look for that information on their website. When you arrive, make sure you look amazing and have your snaps handy.

3. If you get turned down, get to work. Approach local modeling agencies where you live with your snaps. If you get signed, be prepared to make friends with professional photographers. You’ll need those images to get the attention of Victoria’s Secret.

4. Sign up on model websites. Use Google to find them. The world needs to know you’re out there.

5. Measure yourself and be realistic. The ideal height for a Victoria’s Secret model is 5’9″ standing barefoot with body measurements of 34-24-34.

6. Be skinny. You must go to the gym. Stop eating junk food. If you’re not naturally that slim but have the basic body type of a Victoria’s Secret model, hire a nutritionist and trainer.

7. Be on the cover of Vogue before the age of 18. It greatly increases your chances.

8. Enter the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Contest. In 2009 Victoria’s Secret had open calls in October in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami to launch the career of an unknown model. There are currently four requirements to be in the competition. Models must be female, between 18-30 years of age, from the United States and a minimum of 5’8″ tall (barefoot). Competition is once a year. Google it and stay tuned.

9. Be professional. Arrive on time. Don’t stay up late and party before shots. Be good.

10. Meet Edward Razek. For the past fifteen years, Edward Razek has been the man behind the Victoria’s Secret cast. He is in charge of choosing who walks the catwalk and who appears in his ads. He has been instrumental in launching Heidi Klum and Daniela Pestova’s careers to superstar status.
