Heartburn – Lifestyle Suggested by Ayurveda

Our busy lifestyle affects our health and we often feel a burning sensation in our stomach and chest, that is, heartburn. Ayurveda believes that the characteristics of Pitta include acidity, so following the opposite qualities of Pitta in diet and lifestyle helps to restore the balance of the Pitta dosha. And he also states that Agni (digestive fire) is the main protector of the body and ama (toxic) is the true cause of this disease. The following are the lifestyle recommendations to combat heartburn.

General:

  • Stay calm, both physically and emotionally. Avoid going out in the heat of the day, especially on an empty stomach or after eating spicy or spicy foods.
  • Delaying meals can cause excess acidity, so eat on time every day. Don’t skip meals, don’t fast, and don’t wait to eat until you’re ravenously hungry.
  • It is important to go to bed early so that you can get enough rest each night. A cup of warm milk, with a little cardamom, can be helpful before going to bed.
  • Daily elimination is very important to prevent ama from accumulating in the body.
  • Enjoy an Ayurvedic massage every morning before bathing or showering.
  • Protect yourself from heat. Stay cool in hot weather by wearing loose-fitting cotton clothing.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes when you go out. Drink lots of water at room temperature.
  • Balance work and play. Set aside some time for recreation every day.

Diet:

  • Start the day with cooked fruit, followed by some cereal. Eat a supportive meal for lunch and a lighter meal for dinner. Avoid foods that have acidity and eat foods rich in alkaline content.

Exercise:

  • Water-based activities are an ideal exercise for people who are proficient in pitta. Avoid exercising when it is too hot.

Emotional and spiritual life:

  • Set aside about 30 minutes each day for meditation, to help balance the heart and emotions and to improve body-mind-spirit coordination, therefore treating heartburn at its root.

Ayurvedic herbal preparations such as Indukantam qwath tablet, aptizoom syrup, indukantam ghrit, hinguvachadi tablet, dadimashtaka churna, chitrakadi tablet, kalyana gulam, dasmoola haritaki leha should be taken in conjunction with the style suggestions of life mentioned above.
