Vladimir Guerrero says he has no problems with his knees

According to Vladimir Guerrero of the Los Angeles Angels, he has no problem with his knees and will not have surgery. Guerrero said his mother’s side of the family had one leg longer than the other and he had inherited it. That is why it sometimes seems that he is limping, but that is not a fact. Guerrero told the press through a translator.

Last season Guerrero had pain in his right knee and doctors recommended that he undergo surgery. However, before spring training the pain had disappeared and as a result Guerrero decided not to have surgery.

In 2006, Guerrero hit .329 with 33 homers and 116 RBIs. This was his third season with Angels. Unfortunately for Guerrero, he was the best outfielder in the American League with 11 errors. Guerrero insists the errors were not caused by knee problems.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia had said earlier this spring that he intended to give Guerrero and Garret Anderson more time this season as designated hitters. Guerrero was the designated hitter 30 times last season.

Guerrero said that when he played in the National League there were no designated hitters and his knee hurt more since he played on grass and did not take days off. He was healthy now, though, and if Scioscia wanted him to be the designated hitter, he’d be happy to take responsibility.
