Weber’s Wild Beginnings

Weber College was named for a fur trapper and trader who called Salt Lake City home in the 19th century. After its conglomerate in 1889, the school rose to new heights in both education and athletics. The Varsity now has 21,000 respectable academics and dozens of highly talented athletic groups. Between hockey, rodeo, basketball, and a gorgeous Wildcat mascot, Weber State School is drawing dozens of scholars and fans from far and wide. Who can’t help but love a university that prides itself on having a wonderful education and world-class sports programs?

Racing to success, the Weber State men’s basketball team has received several awards and recognition for their hard work. The team and its Wildcat mascot even made the list of the best basketball programs in college history. Don’t think the women’s basketball team can’t keep up because they’re setting themselves up to live up to the Weber name. The team has competed in the championship games for 3 years in a row.

The lavish and user-friendly design of the Weber State College website offers its visitors a way to learn about the College. The website tells the story of the faculty’s own wild mascot, Waldo. Waldo is no ordinary pet. Waldo’s story is reasonably a fun read. Wally Morris was a Weber State football team. Thanks in part to one player on the team calling him names and another player standing up for him, he was given the name Wildcat Morris. Derived from Wally’s nickname and a title thrown about the group from a local reports article, Wildcat’s name stuck like glue. Although the president of the faculty was strongly against the name, the scholars and fans won out in the end.

A live wild mascot was displayed at every school meeting until the unsuspecting creature yelled at one of the students. Waldo has finally taken on the job as mascot and does a brilliant job of entertaining everyone on game day. Although Waldo fits the profile of Wildcat, he is not like the cunning cats found on the foothills of Utah’s mountains. Waldo the Wildcat’s pet is a lovable fellow who can win over any child’s heart. Along with the support of his school, fans, and academics, Waldo, the bobcat mascot, will be around indefinitely.
